High-speed internet is coming to Graham County with new broadband infrastructure. The project is part of a larger initiative by the Arizona Commerce Authority to expand broadband access in rural communities.

The agency’s broadband director Nick Capozzi says the initiative will target lower income areas.

“It really gives opportunity for residents of Graham County, specifically Bryce Eden and Fort Thomas, to provide access to telehealth, different opportunities for tele-education, start their own small businesses.” Capozzi said

Other programs such as Broadband Equity, Access & Deployment have the potential to create thousands of jobs across the state.

“The Arizona Broadband Development Grant Program is going to serve about 100,000 households, businesses, and community anchor institutions, which are schools, hospitals, or community centers across the entire state” Capozzi said.

Capozzi says expanding broadband infrastructure is expected to include over 100 miles of fiber optic.

KJZZ EDITOR'S NOTE: A previous version of this story said the broadband expansion is expected to create 5,000 jobs. A related broadband-expansion initiative, the Broadband Equity, Access & Deployment program, is projected to create thousands of jobs across the state.
